General dentistry covers the more typical dental procedures, such as teeth check-ups and cleanings, fillings, x-rays, and root canals.

Cosmetic dentistry involves aesthetic procedures such as teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, Invisalign braces, contouring and bonding, and dental implants — in other words, all the things involved in a smile makeover.

Restorative dentistry procedures include gum disease treatment, crowns and bridges, TMJ (a disorder of the jaw joints or the muscles that control the joints, called TemporoMandibular Joint), and dentures.
